Indeed if we look into the verses of the Qur’an, the Prophetic Sunnah, and the narrations of the Salaf (Pious predecessors) - in this important matter - it will become clear to us that; when a women leaves her house, then it is an obligation on her to cover her whole body and that she does not show anything of her beauty [adornment] - except her face and hands; if she wants.
An [it will become clear to us] that this covering can be of any type or any material of clothing; as long as it meets the following conditions:
The conditions of the Jilbaab:
1- That it should cover all of her body; except what has been mentioned,
2- That it should not be an adornment in itself (it should not be attractive),
3- It should not be translucent / it should not be “see-through’’,
4- It should be loose; and not tight fitting such that it describes her body,
5 - It should not be perfumed or incensed,
6 - It cannot be clothing which resembles the clothing of men,
7 - It cannot be clothing which resembles the clothing of the disbelievers,
8 - And it should not be a cloth of shuhrah (fame / drawing attention).
